Richard Cox, Ph.D., M.D., D.Min, retired as President of Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO., October 8, 2001, having served in various positions since its charter in 1979 (founding Dean) and is now designated as President Emeritus/Professor of that institution of higher education, as well as having served on the faculty at Northwestern University Medical School and Rush University Medical School. Dr. Cox was the founding President of the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology for the American Board of Professional Psychology (APA). He has been the recipient of numerous awards including a Presidential Award and the prestigious Heiser Award from the American Psychological Association and the Weiner Award in Pain Education from the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Cox served on the College of Professional Psychology and numerous other professional committees for the American Psychological Association and is an approved APA site-visitor. He has been a national and international consultant in the fields of medicine, psychology and theology nationally and internationally since 1959. He holds earned doctorates in psychology, medicine, and theology as well as many honors, including three honorary doctorates (D.Sc., DHL.,PsyD). He is an ordained clergyman in the Presbyterian Church (USA), guest Master-Teacher/Artist musician at Interlochen Center for the Arts, an internationally known speaker, and author of numerous professional books, chapters in books, and journal articles. He holds numerous specialty certificates and diplomate designations in medicine, psychology, and theology. Dr. Cox continues to write, lecture, conduct and perform musically, and serve as a consultant to programs and institutions requesting his areas of expertise. He serves on the Editorial Board of PsycCritique a publication of the American Psychological Association and is an Affiliated Scholar, Georgetown University Medical Center, Center for Clinical Bioethics, Washington, DC and of Oxford University, London, England. Dr. Cox and his wife (a PhD in Professional Psychology) are the parents of three now grown children. The Coxes live in Chapel Hill, NC.
